The entire story, for the most part, takes place in the well-known realm of the dead from Christian and Catholic lore: Hell. However, unlike the stories have gone on to say, Hell is more comparable to a big city rather than a medieval, decaying underworld on fire. Still dark and draped in a reddened atmosphere, Hell has grown and adapted to catch up with modern times. At the center of it all is an unimaginably tall skyscraper that acts as the main office for all governmental activities: reaping souls, damnation placement, and general management of the underworld community, its resources, and its affiliates. Zatin's office is, of course, at the top floor of the building, which is also where Mikheal spends most of his time when not taking care of menial tasks in other departments on some of the floors below.
Zatin's office
Zatin's office is a gigantic red room on the top floor of the capital building. It houses several bookshelves containing information on Hell, many mirrors, and some tchotchkes to make the office a little more "homey." They definitely do not make the space any less intimidating, especially as everything closes in on Zatin's desk centered in the back of the room, silhouetted from the floor-to-ceiling window that welcomes light from the world outside.
